About The Role
You are invited to support children and young people residing in Kirinari OOHC homes. This role specifically focuses on caring for young children with high medical needs. Our young people have experienced childhood trauma, abuse or neglect and may have mental health, physical or psychosocial disabilities. We look for resilient, committed team members who can support them to build skills and strengths within a therapeutic model of care, providing safety and empowerment.
Typical responsibilities include:
Supporting young people to develop independent living skills.
Helping them achieve personal goals.
Engaging them in local communities (school, community groups, etc.).
Providing daily care and support, including assistance with household duties.
Transporting young people to and from appointments.
Supporting connection to family and culture.
Collaborating with other professionals (such as Behaviour Support Practitioners) to deliver multidisciplinary care.
Qualifications & Criteria
Commitment to the safety of children, young people, and people with a disability.
Understanding of strength-based trauma-informed practice (or willingness to learn).
Qualifications in Community Services, Residential Care, Welfare or related fields (Cert IV) – highly regarded.
Previous experience in residential therapeutic care and complex trauma – highly regarded.
Experience with high medical needs an advantage.
Willingness to work a flexible roster, including weekends, evenings, actives and sleepovers – availability for actives and sleepovers is a must.
Ability to obtain NDIS Workers Screening Check prior to commencement.
Ability to obtain a paid NSW Working with Children Check prior to commencement.
Willingness to be registered on the NSW Residential Care Workers Register.
Complete a National Criminal History Check (paid by Kirinari).
Physically active and able to engage with young people in games/sport.
Computer literate, able to use a variety of software/programs.
Hold a current driver's license.
