About The Role
Join The Florey's communications team as our People & Culture focused Communications Manager. You'll be the voice that connects our team of researchers and professional staff to our mission, ensuring everyone feels informed, engaged, and proud to be part of world-leading brain research. This role is perfect for someone who thrives on building organisational culture through authentic, engaging communications that translate complex research into meaningful stories for our internal community.
What You'll Do
Internal Communications & Culture
* Lead all staff-facing communications: newsletters, intranet, town halls, leadership cascades, and change communications
* Develop content that builds pride, understanding, and alignment with The Florey's mission and values
* Support leadership team with communication coaching, speech writing, and presentation development
* Create feedback loops to measure and improve internal communications effectiveness
Integrated Campaign Development
* Partner with the external-focused Communications Manager to ensure consistent messaging across all audiences
* Source and develop human impact stories that work across internal and external channels
* Support recruitment communications and onboarding content for new staff
* Collaborate on crisis communications and organisational announcements
Content Creation & Storytelling
* Write compelling content across multiple formats: newsletters, videos, presentations, and digital platforms
* Translate complex research and institutional updates into accessible, engaging content
* Maintain content calendar aligned with organisational priorities and research milestones
What You Bring
Essential:
* 4-6 years' experience in internal communications, employee engagement, or corporate communications
* Exceptional writing and editing skills across multiple formats and channels
* Experience managing change communications and organisational announcements
* Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to work with senior leaders
* Proficiency with communications platforms (SharePoint, internal social networks, content production basics)
Highly Desirable:
* Experience in research, university, or healthcare environment
* Understanding of scientific research processes and terminology
* Experience with employee engagement surveys and feedback systems
* Graphic design or multimedia content creation skills
