Overview 
Medical Scientist, Anatomical Pathology role at Alfred Health. Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education and the main provider of health services to the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne. 
Position summary 
Scientists in this position work primarily in the Histopathology section applying a broad range of histological techniques. Rotation into Immunohistochemistry, Cytopathology and VNLS may occur on a rostered basis. 
Responsibilities 
- Perform specimen processing in histology, immunohistochemistry, neuromuscular and cytology sections. 
- Prepare frozen sections for urgent diagnosis and immunohistochemistry. 
- Perform routine and special histological and cytological staining techniques. 
- Participate in specimen reception and specimen cut-up. 
- Participate in rotating rosters within Anatomical Pathology, including shifts, weekends and on-call. 
About You 
Qualifications Required: 
- A directed degree in Biomedical Science from a recognised University. A Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) from an Australian or Current Zealand University is preferred. 
Experience And Skills Required 
- Experience in one or more aspects of diagnostic histopathological techniques such as tissue handling, specimen registration, histological processing, specimen cut-up, tissue embedding, microtomy, histological staining techniques. 
Additional information 
- Permanent Full Time at 80 hours per fortnight. 
- Medical Scientists Grade 1-Grade 2 (RX1-RY7): $63,674.00 - $106,906.80 + Superannuation.
