Offer description

Ongoing position available

$269,300 - $294,246 total remuneration payable

Your role

As the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) for the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), you will be the senior executive accountable for directing and strengthening cyber security, governance, and risk management across the department. You will ensure DCJ's digital systems and services remain secure, resilient, and trusted, while providing strategic guidance and influence across portfolio agencies to embed consistent and effective cyber security practices.

Based in Parramatta

Leading a dedicated team of professionals across cyber security operations, threat intelligence, customer engagement, and risk, audit and compliance, you will drive both strategic and operational outcomes to safeguard DCJ's critical systems and information. You will engage closely with technology teams to embed secure design principles, strengthen cyber resilience, and continuously improve the department's security posture. In addition, you will guide and uplift cyber maturity among vendor and delivery partners in the human services sector, fostering a strong and unified security culture across the broader DCJ ecosystem.

Working collaboratively with CIOs, CISOs, and Cyber Security NSW, you will shape DCJ's cyber security strategy, policy, and assurance frameworks to protect the integrity of services that support the people and communities of New South Wales.

What You'll Do

* Manage and optimise cyber security operations to protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with legislative and business requirements.
* Enhance cyber resilience by improving security technologies and aligning practices with whole-of-government strategies and policies.
* Oversee enterprise-level cyber risk management, including incident response and monitoring global threats to identify emerging risks.
* Develop and implement security policies, standards, and training programmes to promote secure practices across the Department and third‑party providers.
* Drive strategic security planning, including architecture, governance frameworks, and risk management to support business outcomes.
* Provide expert advice and leadership, including reporting, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration with government agencies and industry partners.

What We're Looking For

* Extensive experience leading cyber security teams and managing budgets, projects, and day‑to‑day operations.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills to advise on evolving cyber threats and strengthen risk management, providing cyber security technical direction in a large and complex organisation.
* Knowledge and experience in developing and delivering Cyber Security strategy.
* Proven ability to balance operational stability with innovation under budget constraints.
* A persuasive leader who can lead calmly during crises, translating technical issues into clear business language.
* A strategic thinker with significant leadership and management ability.
* Tertiary qualifications or equivalent senior‑level experience, plus eligibility for NV1 Security Clearance.
