The Position
Bass Coast Health is seeking General Medical Consultants who are fully qualified and committed general medical or dual trained doctors working in a hospital setting. We have multiple opportunities for General Medical Consultants to secure shifts across 7 days, including on-call.
As a General Medical Physicians/GP Generalist Medical Officer you will:
1. Provide daily ward rounds on the acute medical ward.
2. Review and management of patients admitted to HITH & medical ITCU.
3. Respond to Medical Emergency calls (MET calls) across BCH and provide clinical support for code Blues as required during roster hours. There is no requirement to respond to MET or Codes during the on-call component of the 7-day roster.
4. Review of unwell patients admitted under the geriatric team in the Sub acute ward on weekends, as directed by the Hospital Service Coordinator (HSC).
5. Provide 24hr on call telephone support to the junior medical staff (JMS) who will be responsible for the day to day function of the medical ward, including accepting referrals for admission to the general ward or HITH.
6. Daily morning Multidisciplinary team discharge meeting to facilitate discharge planning on the ward.
7. Facilitate and supervise clinical handover from the night JMS to the incoming day JMS.
8. Daily review and clinical support to the Close Observation Unit (once established) on the medical ward
9. Engagement in a weekly general medicine or other agreed subspecialty public clinic at the Wonthaggi site.
10. Ensure timely completion of discharge summaries that are provided to the patient on the day of discharge.
11. Daily supervision of the Junior medical staff, including formative work based assessments and mid and end of term rotation assessments.
12. Care provided in accordance with professional best practice, clinician's scope of clinical practice and organisational values
13. Documentation completed to high standard on each patient file
About you:
In addition to aligning with the Bass Coast Health WE CARE values, to be successful in this position, you will have:
14. MBBS degree (or equivalent)
15. Post-graduate medical qualifications Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of General Practitioners, or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine.
16. Demonstrated clinical background and experience in hospital based internal medicine.
17. Demonstrated organisational, interpersonal, consultation, negotiation and communication skills
18. Experience in teaching and mentoring of Junior Medical Staff
19. Valid police check
20. Valid Working with Child Check
21. COVID-19 Vaccination in accordance with the Chief Health officer COVID-19 Mandatory vaccination Directions
