Part of the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB), Data and Digital Government (D&DG) drives Queensland's digital economy and delivers responsive, simple, and effective services for all Queenslanders. D&DG provides strategic and policy leadership on digital, customer experience and service delivery, while supporting agencies with design management, capability development, corporate shared services and customer service channels.
The Data and Artificial Intelligence (DAI) team, a centralised and secure whole-of-government unit within D&DG, helps agencies solve complex challenges through analytics and offers policy and business advice on data management, use and publication.
Why Your Role Matters
As the Lead BI Specialist, you will lead the design, delivery, and evolution of enterprise business intelligence and analytics platforms, supporting DAI's objectives. You'll champion CI/CD pipeline methodologies, effective change control practices and product management lifecycle principles across analytics and data teams.
Your role involves transforming complex raw datasets into high-quality data models for analytics, reporting, and system integration. You'll set architectural standards for integrating key business systems, leveraging modern cloud-native platforms and tools.
This role underpins the Queensland Government's commitment to transparency and data-driven decision-making by delivering measurable outcomes, actionable insights and secure data-sharing solutions. You'll collaborate with government departments and partners to ensure the effective application of modelling techniques, analytical methods and standards.

Who You Are
You bring strategic leadership, advanced technical expertise, and the ability to foster collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, vendors and team members. You excel in innovation and continuous improvement, with experience leading data analytics and business intelligence initiatives, including stakeholder engagement and applying modelling tools and standards to identify benefits, risks, and business requirements.
You're client-focused, adaptable, and skilled at managing competing priorities to deliver outcomes on time. Your technical expertise includes data modelling, integration, and cloud technologies, particularly Azure services like Data Factory, DevOps, Spark (Databricks/Synapse), and SQL databases.
You demonstrate leadership qualities aligned with the Leadership Competencies for Queensland, including driving accountability, fostering innovation, and building strong relationships.
