An exciting opportunity exists for an Allied Health Assistant-Orthoptics to work within the eye clinic, assisting the orthoptists and optometrists with clinical vision screening assessments of patients before seeing the ophthalmologist. Investigations to be performed include visual acuity testing, visual field examination, Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) and ocular photography.
This role will also contribute to total patient management by assisting Allied Health Professionals (AHP) in duties of patient care and contribute to the productive operation of the Orthoptics service by undertaking other non-treatment activities as required. Duties are completed under the direct or indirect supervision of a qualified Orthoptist or Optometrist.

**Key Responsibilities include**:
- Provide a defined range of clinical screening assessments as delegated and allowed by testing guidelines and legislation.
- Provide a defined range of treatments as prescribed by the AHP and work under their general direction including using decision support tools, clinical pathways and patient guidelines.
- Perform safe practice in the performance of material handling tasks, patient manual handling and positioning techniques.
- Provide basic education on a defined range of topics to patients or groups of patients.
