Emergency services volunteer - act

Canberra
Red Cross
Posted: 13 June
Offer description

It’s the perfect time to become an Emergency Service volunteer at Australian Red Cross and access fully funded accredited training through our Qantas Partnership initiative.

We are seeking volunteers in all areas across ACT.

Join the world’s largest humanitarian organisation and make real impact by helping people before, during and after emergencies

Give your time flexibly - choose how and when you volunteer

Why become an Emergency Services volunteer with Australian Red Cross? You’ll have real impact.

Make a meaningful difference. As an Australian Red Cross Emergency Services Volunteer, you’ll have direct impact within your community—whether delivering Psychological First Aid, helping people prepare before disasters, supporting recovery after emergencies, or contributing to training and operational activities.

Everyone belongs. Regardless of your background or stage of life, you can play a vital role in helping communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies and disasters.

Be part of something bigger. You’ll join a community of humanitarians and connect with a dedicated network of trained volunteers who share your passion for helping others—ready to assist locally and across the state when emergencies occur.

Build your skills. As part of your ongoing development as an Emergency Services volunteer, you’ll be invited to complete a fully funded, accredited First Aid training course through our Qantas partnership, in addition to Psychological First Aid training.

Emergency Services at Australian Red Cross Australian Red Cross has been responding to emergencies and providing humanitarian assistance in Australia since 1914. We are committed to strengthening and extending our emergency aid services to assist all Australians in preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies.

Our work spreads far and wide and consists of a range of support to communities at-risk of disaster or that have experienced an emergency. We work in communities before an emergency assisting with individual and community preparedness, during an emergency providing support in welfare and relief centres and through our emergency phoneline, and after emergencies as communities move through the recovery process.

We also work with many stakeholders to provide training in psychological first aid, response, emergency management and recovery.

Our volunteering opportunity We’re looking for people who are willing to be trained and ready to support communities when they need it most. This role suits volunteers who are committed to maintaining their training so they can step in when emergencies occur.

Because emergencies are unpredictable, this isn’t a set or scheduled volunteering role. Instead, we ask that you’re prepared to respond when needed—while still retaining the flexibility to choose when you volunteer and the activities that best suit your interests, skills, and availability.

This flexible approach also applies to our preparedness and recovery work. Opportunities may include supporting community events, attending meetings, providing administrative assistance, participating in training, or helping to facilitate activities. You’ll be notified as opportunities arise, allowing you to get involved in ways that work for you while making a meaningful impact.
