We have six roles available: Three Male Aboriginal Rangers and Three Female Aboriginal Rangers, One of which is a Senior Aboriginal Ranger / Team Leader.
The Senior Aboriginal Ranger role requires a minimum of 1-2 years of Ranger experience.
The River Murray and Mallee Aboriginal Corporation plays a crucial role in the conservation, protection, and management of the natural and cultural resources of RMMAC Country. This role requires a deep connection to the local Aboriginal culture and RMAMC community, as well as knowledge of traditional and contemporary land management practices.
The Aboriginal Ranger role and the Senior Aboriginal Ranger role will work collaboratively with their fellow rangers and trainees, RMMAC Elders and stakeholders to ensure the protection and preservation of the natural and cultural values of the region.
Ranger Desirable Experience
* Aboriginal heritage and strong cultural connections within the local Aboriginal community.
* Understanding of Aboriginal land management practices, cultural heritage, and traditional ecological knowledge, conservation principles and sustainable land management practices.
* Communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and work effectively with other rangers and trainees, the Aboriginal community, Elders, and stakeholders and work effectively as part of a team taking direction from Senior Rangers.
* Ability to work in remote and physically challenging environments, often in adverse weather conditions.
* Willingness to undertake training and professional development opportunities related to land management, conservation, and cultural heritage.
* Ability to operate equipment and tools necessary for land management tasks and ability to undertake tasks such as fire management and revegetation.
Senior Ranger will need to:
* Provide leadership and guidance to a team of rangers and trainee rangers, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of conservation and land management activities.
* Coordinate and prioritise work tasks for the ranger team, considering both cultural and environmental factors on both land and water, ensuring effective use and management of time.
* Mentor, train, and guide rangers and trainee rangers, fostering their personal and professional development.
* Have leadership or management qualifications or a willingness to gain.
Training will be provided, if not already obtained:
* TAFE registration to undertake a Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management. Knowledge of local flora, fauna, ecosystems, and environmental management principles.
* Licences and qualifications or ability to attain including: first aid certificate, Working with Vulnerable People card, firearms licence, driver's licence, Boat licence, certifications for brush cutting and chainsaw use.
* A valid Australian driver's licence is required for this position.
* Training in recording data accurately and ability to assist with the development of reporting documentation.
