About Us For over 40 years Women's Legal Service Victoria (Women's Legal) has championed women's rights to live free from violence.
We are a dedicated team with a passion for working with women and non-binary people to live free from violence and discrimination by: Providing high quality integrated legal services for Victorian women and non-binary people who are victim-survivors of family violence and disadvantagedor marginalised by structural and systemic barriers.
Building the capacity of professionals who work with women and non-binary people, to better understandthe law and navigate the legal system safely.
Advancing gender equality by challenging unsafe and discriminatory policies andlaws and informing and advocating for legal and policy initiatives that respect andpromote the rights of women and non-binary people.
About the Role The Lawyer will provide high quality legal advice and representation to women and non-binary people that have experienced family violence and/or sexual violence.
This includes: Provide legal advice and assistance as on call lawyer, including secondary consultations; Maintain a small caseload of legal matters in family law and one or more practice areas of family violence, migration, child protection and/or victims of crime assistance; Providing an integrated and holistic client service, working with social workers and financial counsellors, to address both legal and non-legal needs.
In addition to the above, the Senior Lawyer will conduct more complex matters as well as provide mentoring and support to other lawyers.
About You You are a driven, motivated self-starter who works autonomously to deliver results that exceed the client's expectations.
You have high attention to detail, strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with people quickly.
Key to your success is your: Strong understanding of family violence Passion and drive to work alongside women and non-binary people to support their rights to live free from violence Confidence in appearance work Excellent organisational and time management skills, and the ability to manage changing priorities Understanding of the gendered nature and impact of family violence You will: Hold or be eligible to hold an unrestricted practising certificate Have a minimum of 4+ years post admission experience in family law, child protection law and/or victims of crime assistance Have experience working with women and non-binary people experiencing family violence and sexual violence.
