We're looking for a passionate and motivated AOD Counsellor to join our team. In this role, you'll collaborate with Lives Lived Well AOD Services and NEAMI National Medicare Mental Health Centre to provide evidence-based counselling to clients experiencing problematic substance use.

You'll support clients through assessment, treatment planning, and relapse prevention in a multidisciplinary setting. If you hold relevant qualifications in Social Work or Psychology and are committed to making a difference—whether you're experienced or just starting out in the field—we encourage you to apply and grow with us in a supportive, values-driven environment.

In collaboration with the Lives Lived Well AOD Services team and NEAMI National Medicare Mental Health Centre, you will provide therapeutic interventions to clients who are engaged in problematic substance use. Using your knowledge of evidence-based practice, you will deliver high-quality engagement, assessment, counselling, and recovery-focused support tailored to each individual's needs throughout their treatment journey.

This is full-time, fixed-term position (until 30th June 2026, with the possibility of extension) is based in Townsville and co-locating between the NEAMI National Medicare Mental Health Centre and Lives Lived Well office.

The salary is $43.08 - $51.51 per hour plus Superannuation and Salary Packaging. The salary on offer will depend on the skills, knowledge and experience of the successful candidate.

What we are looking for
Tertiary qualified in Social Work or Psychology, you don't need to have experience in this field – in fact we welcome new Graduates, but you must be passionate about working in the Townsville community and have the following skills and attributes:

* Demonstrated knowledge in AOD counselling practice complimented with contemporary evidence based AOD counselling practice, case management, intake, and assessment.
* Strong computer skills and knowledge of CRM systems, and the importance of maintaining accurate data
* Culturally safe and appropriate work practices, and ability to tailor your approach to a wide variety of people
* Engagement and rapport building skills – you will need to develop connections quickly
* Emotional maturity, patience, and resilience – there will be both positive and negative outcomes in this role
* Stakeholder engagement - maintaining relationships with local youth services is a key factor
* Knowledge of the local region is highly desirable

You will be tertiary qualified, hold an Australian Drivers Licence and current Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
