About The Role
The Head of Department - English is an energetic, future-focused educator who leads change to improve student learning outcomes. You will shape and grow a dynamic English faculty through a student-centred approach and strong professional relationships with students, staff, parents and the community. You will lead the development of high-quality teaching and learning practices, manage resources strategically, and contribute to whole-school initiatives. A key focus is supporting the Department’s 10-year reading commitment.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead the school department to develop and commit to a shared educational vision focused on quality learning outcomes for all students.
- Embed socially just practices in daily school life.
- Set high standards for student and staff performance.
- Participate in lifelong learning and ongoing professional development.
- Form partnerships with students, parents, other government agencies, and community groups.
- Be futures-oriented and strategic.
- Understand the legislation and policies impacting schooling, especially regarding students and staff in the department.
- Manage the human, financial, facilities and curriculum resources of the department to achieve goals.
