Young People's Librarian

Role Overview
Gympie Regional Council is currently looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated librarian to join our team as our Young People's Librarian on a permanent full time basis. This position is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of dynamic and inclusive library services, programs and collections that are responsive to the needs of children (birth through to age 12), young people and their families. This role focuses on promoting literacy, education, and lifelong learning through engaging programs, reader's advisory, and community outreach.
This position will be responsible for tasks such as:
* Lead the development, delivery and promotion of literacy, reader development and digital programs, collections and services for children and young adults that are responsive to the needs of children, young people and their families.
* Deliver training to library staff in relation to children and young people's programs and services.
* Ensure the library is a dynamic and integral part of the community by promoting young people's services, providing outreach programs and liaising with relevant groups.
* Formulate, establish and review strategies and policies, set goals and project priorities in children's and young adults' areas, and monitor workflows.
* Actively participate in the Library Leadership Team, providing advice and contributing to service-wide strategic and operational plans, reports, policy, procedure and process improvement.
* Provide operational support to the library service desk as rostered and undertake all related duties in accordance with Policy, Guidelines and Work Instructions.
To be successful in this role, candidates should have:
* Degree or post graduate-level degree in Library and Information studies, Education or other related discipline.
* Well-developed presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to develop and deliver library programs for children and young people, including knowledge of the State Library of Queensland's First 5 Forever program.
* Well-developed library collection management skills and a strong knowledge of children's literature and reading requirements and the development of literacy skills.
* Knowledge of Makerspace and experience in STEAM educational programs.
* Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
* Well-developed management/leadership skills and the ability to motivate others.
* Project implementation/management and report writing skills.
* Demonstrated experience with library budgetary management.
Desirable Requirements:
* Eligibility for professional membership of the Australian Library and Information Association.
* Training and assessment qualifications.
