Role Summary
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the delivery of mechanical engineering scopes across FEED and Detailed Design phases for major oil & gas, heavy industrial, and processing projects. Success in this role means delivering technically sound, compliant, and timely engineering solutions that meet or exceed client expectations while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.
As a senior member of the engineering team, you will provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers and designers, and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project integration and consistency. Reporting directly to the Project Manager, you will play a pivotal role in OGP Group's reputation for delivering complex, high-value projects with precision and professionalism.
Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical engineering delivery for FEED and Detailed Design phases, ensuring all outputs meet project, client, and regulatory requirements
* Plan, organise, and allocate resources to achieve milestones on time and within budget
* Develop and review engineering documentation, including Design Basis documents, P&IDs, specifications, equipment datasheets, and material requisitions
* Select and specify mechanical equipment such as pressure vessels, filters, heat exchangers, pumps, separators, compressors, gas turbines, gas engines, and piping systems
* Apply relevant Australian Standards, codes, and client specifications to all mechanical designs and deliverables
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and vendors to resolve technical issues and maintain alignment across project data and deliverables
* Champion quality assurance by adhering to OGP's Quality Policy and taking accountability for the standard of all deliverables before submission
* Identify and mitigate technical risks to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient designs
* Mentor and supervise mechanical engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and reviewing work to ensure accuracy and quality
Qualifications & Experience
Education & Certifications:
* Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
* Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng)
* RPEQ & RPEV, VBA certified, or eligible for professional registration
Experience & Skills:
* Minimum 10 years' engineering experience in the oil & gas industry
* Minimum 10 years' experience in FEED and Detailed Engineering Design
* Recent experience in heavy industry, minerals processing, chemical processing, or onshore oil & gas projects
* Demonstrated experience working with multidisciplinary teams to deliver engineering projects or packages
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven stakeholder management abilities
* Strong planning, coordination, and execution skills in a multi-disciplinary environment
Technical Expertise:
* Proven experience with major static and rotating equipment packages, including pressure vessels, filters, heat exchangers, pumps, separators, compressors, gas turbines, gas engines, and piping systems
* Proficient in developing Design Basis documents, P&IDs, specifications, equipment datasheets, and material requisitions
* Sound knowledge of Australian Standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications
* Pipe stress analysis experience is desirable but not mandatory
