About the Role The Legal Services and Privacy Branch provides trusted, high‑quality legal advice to the Agency Executive and staff across a broad range of complex matters. The Branch comprises two closely aligned teams—Commercial Law and Corporate Law—and delivers practical in‑house legal services across commercial law, information and privacy law, employment law, statutory interpretation and administrative law.
As a Senior Lawyer in the Commercial Law team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering clear, practical and client‑focused legal advice on complex commercial matters. This is an ongoing opportunity to join a collaborative, purpose‑driven legal team delivering nationally significant outcomes. Drawing on your experience in Government legal practice, you will navigate sophisticated legal issues, build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to a fast‑paced, supportive and inclusive professional environment.
In this role, you will provide accurate and pragmatic legal advice with limited supervision, including drafting and reviewing complex ICT and software agreements, advising on large‑scale procurements, intellectual property arrangements and confidentiality agreements. You will work closely with internal clients, other Australian Government agencies and external legal services providers, ensure compliance with the Legal Services Directions 2025, support Principal Lawyers across a broad range of legal matters, and manage external legal services provider engagements and budgets.
Skills and Experience
Minimum 5 years’ post‑admission experience, including substantial experience as a Government lawyer.
Strong expertise in commercial law, including ICT and software agreements, procurements, intellectual property and confidentiality arrangements.
Demonstrated ability to provide clear, practical and timely legal advice on complex matters with limited supervision.
Proven experience building effective relationships with internal clients, government stakeholders and external legal services providers.
Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory, holding (or eligible to obtain) a Government restricted practising certificate.
Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and operate effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
