The Office of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer (OCNMO) is responsible for the professional strategic leadership and leadership and high-level advice on a broad range of nursing and midwifery issues across the Health and Community Services Directorate, Canberra Health Services, and the Territory; collaborating and providing advice to the ACT Government regarding nursing and midwifery related matters; assisting in the delivery of workforce reforms, workforce planning, professional education; strengthening and developing nursing and midwifery services through innovative models of care and service delivery; representing the ACT Government and ACT health system at national forums; and ensuring the future capability of the nursing and midwifery professions both locally and nationally.

The OCNMO has an opportunity for a Project and Secretariat Officer to support the implementation and delivery of the Maternity in Focus: The ACT Public Maternity System Plan 2022-2032. Under the general direction of the Senior Midwifery Advisor, the Project and Secretariat Officer will work within a small team to provide high quality secretariat support, assist with providing strategic policy, project advice, government briefings, submissions, reports and speeches.

Eligibility/Other requirements: Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately until 24 October 2026 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. This position is part-time at up to (32) hours per week and the full-time salary noted above will be pro-rata.

An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.

Our office supports Flexible and hybrid working options, coming into the office two days a week and the opportunity to work from home on other days.

Health and Community Services Directorate was established on the 1 July 2025. This new directorate is an amalgamation of positions previously advertised under ACT Health Directorate and Community Services Directorate.
