So, what's the role?
This is a hands-on, high-trust role that blends expert bookkeeping with practical payroll know-how. Reporting to our Bookkeeping Manager, you'll play a pivotal part in keeping things running smoothly—both behind the scenes and in front of clients. You'll reconcile accounts, manage pay runs, lodge BAS and IAS, and be our in-house go-to for payroll compliance. You'll bring clarity, care, and attention to detail to every interaction—whether it's interpreting award rates, solving a payroll query, or making sure a client's books are immaculate. You'll work closely with a tight-knit, supportive team and have the chance to grow your own expertise—especially in payroll, where we'll back you to become a true specialist.

Here's what a typical week might look like:

* Reconciling accounts and preparing financials across Xero, MYOB, and Excel
* Managing accounts payable and receivable with a calm, can-do attitude
* Preparing and lodging BAS and IAS with accuracy and efficiency
* Overseeing end-to-end payroll processes and compliance for multiple clients
* Interpreting awards, resolving payroll queries, and advising on Fair Work obligations
* Troubleshooting payroll discrepancies and recommending process improvements
* Keeping WIP reports up to date and communicating progress clearly with the team
* Supporting junior team members and contributing to a positive, learning-focused culture
* Staying across legislation changes and flagging opportunities to lift our processes even further.

Enough about us—let's talk about whether this role is for you
You're an experienced bookkeeper who knows your way around Xero and could run payroll with your eyes closed (though we strongly recommend you don't). You love the satisfaction of reconciling to the cent—but you're more than just great with numbers, you're great with people, too. You can explain payroll quirks without the jargon, spot a better way of doing things, and genuinely enjoy helping businesses feel confident and in control. Most importantly, you are looking to develop your payroll knowledge and be the payroll specialist for our clients.

What you bring (on paper):

* A bookkeeping qualification (TAFE or equivalent)—and maybe an associate degree in accounting, finance or business
* Solid experience in bookkeeping and payroll—ideally within a professional services environment
* Strong knowledge of Xero, including payroll and compliance
* Understanding of Fair Work regulations, award interpretation, and superannuation
* A steady hand with Microsoft Excel and a strong grasp of accounting fundamentals
