We are seeking to establish a pool of Student Support Officers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the **** school year.
Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Aveley Secondary College (SC) opened in **** and is a large secondary school catering for Years 7 to 12 in Perth's Swan Valley.
The College is recognised as a school of choice with high expectations and standards, a progressive approach and a commitment to excellence.
Teaching and learning at the College is a focus (with Explicit Direct Instruction the signature pedagogy) supported by a rigorous behaviour curriculum and systems to support conditions for learning in the classroom.
Teachers are supported by professional development and coaching in these key areas.
Aveley SC's collaborative approach to pedagogy has been recognised as best practice through the Grattan Institute and teaching staff have been filmed by the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) as examples of best practice.
A central feature of the college is strong teams with an extensive repertoire of curriculum resources.
As alumni of the Fogarty EDvance program, the school has visitors from across the state and country visiting our classrooms to see our teachers in action.
Most recently the school is in the finals of the **** WA Education Awards.

The Role
The Student Support Officer role is a position that works with young people, supporting students and running programmes to meet different needs.
The Student Support Officer works closely with our Student Support teams to provide and support for the social, emotional and academic needs of individuals and groups of students.
They work collaboratively with their sub-school team to assist in developing and introducing school planning and intervention strategies.
The role is responsive and aims to provide effective support for students to maintain appropriate school attendance, behaviour and goal setting.
Suitable candidates will ideally have exceptional interpersonal skills to develop supportive links between the student, the family, the school and other appropriate agencies in the community.
The Student Support Officer role also involves a wide range of administrative and student-focused support services within the school.
This could include breakfast club, support groups, lunchtime activities, event planning or individualised programmes to support students.
Ideally, candidates will possess the capacity to document incidents or actions and maintain thorough records.
Suitable applicants should also have strong computer skills using various Microsoft Office applications and Department of Education databases, such as student records and management information systems that relate to attendance, good standing, uniform and student services entries.
