Job Overview
This role involves undertaking pre-burn inspections, providing specialist advice on terrain suitability, conducting audits and supervising fire management activities.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring works programs are implemented efficiently and effectively in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Key qualifications include a Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management or the willingness to acquire it.
Applicants must possess excellent oral and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team and liaise with other parties to achieve positive outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Undertake pre-burn inspections and update maps as required.
* Provide specialist advice regarding terrain suitability and identify required works to enable heavy vehicle access.
* Conduct audits and maintain fire equipment and the fire store.
* Supervise and lead teams in conservation activities including parks and visitor services and sustainable forest management.
Requirements
* Ability to supervise and coach others in a range of work programs, identify training needs and promote continuous learning.
* Ability to plan and implement works programs efficiently, organize resources and ensure quality control.
* Proven ability to undertake prescribed burning and incident and fire management activities; physically fit for on-ground fire work and able to pass departmental fire fitness tests and medical requirements.
* Good writing skills, including the ability to produce reports and programs; computer skills (Word, Excel) as required.
* Knowledge of basic fauna, flora and hygiene management.
