Position SummaryWe're looking for a detail-focused Subeditor to help produce The Point, an Australia Institute initiative, publishing research, analysis, explainers and factchecks from experts in their field.
If you love polishing copy, spotting errors instantly, and turning complex ideas into plain English, this role is for you.
What you'll do
* Edit and refine articles from Australia Institute researchers and external contributors
* Prepare stories for publication, ensuring they are accurate and meet The Point editorial standards
* Write strong, engaging headlines that perform well in search and on social media
* Upload and format content in our content management system, including captions and layout
* Choose appropriate images, illustrations or multimedia to support stories
* Fact-check content to ensure accuracy and clarity
* Use audience data and SEO insights to help grow readership
* Help plan and post social media content to increase reach and engagement
What we're looking for
* Strong editing skills and an excellent eye for detail
* Ability to write clear, compelling headlines
* Confidence working with digital publishing tools and CMS platforms
* Understanding of SEO and audience analytics (or a willingness to learn)
* An interest in Australian politics, public policy and social issues
* Ability to manage deadlines and juggle multiple stories
