About the Role
As the Social Worker (AHP2) within the CALHN Mental Health Clinical Program, you will be part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team delivering recovery-focussed services across inpatient, sub-acute, community, rehabilitation, and age-specific settings. You will provide discipline-specific, evidence-based social work interventions aimed at improving clinical outcomes and enhancing the wellbeing of consumers. Your role will include acute and psychosocial assessments, care coordination, crisis intervention, rehabilitation, and the delivery of targeted, recovery-oriented therapeutic interventions aligned with CALHN's Model of Care and Service Plan.
Working collaboratively with consumers, families, carers, and a broad network of internal and external stakeholders, you will support stabilisation, promote capacity for self-management, and assist consumers to maintain their tenure in the community. You will contribute to clinical formulation, service improvement initiatives, education activities, and the evaluation of clinical services. About You
You are a committed and skilled mental health Social Worker who brings strong clinical judgement, compassion, and a recovery-focused approach to supporting consumers with complex needs. You excel in multidisciplinary environments, demonstrate advanced assessment capability, and show genuine dedication to professional growth, evidence-based practice, and high-quality consumer care.
* Educational/Vocational Qualifications – Appropriate degree or equivalent qualification providing eligibility for full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
* Personal Abilities/Aptitudes/Skills – Strong professional judgement, advanced psychosocial and biopsychosocial assessment skills, ability to work collaboratively with consumers and carers, excellent communication, conflict resolution and organisational skills, capability to work independently, deliver evidence-based interventions, interpret legislation, and provide supervision to junior staff.
* Experience – Demonstrated experience supporting consumers with serious mental illness or disability, including complex clinical situations across inpatient and community settings. Experience delivering recovery-oriented interventions, forming therapeutic relationships, coordinating comprehensive care, engaging with community services, and operating effectively within fast-paced multidisciplinary teams.
* Knowledge – Sound understanding of mental health needs, social work ethics and practice standards, recovery principles, psychosocial frameworks, psychiatric assessment tools, medications, risk management, and key legislation, including considerations for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and CALD populations.
