The
Basic Oxygen Steelmaking (BOS)
Department plays a critical role in BlueScope's steelmaking process, converting molten iron from the Blast Furnace into high‑quality steel that becomes hot‑rolled coil and Australian building products.
The
BOS Asset Team
is responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and reliable maintenance outcomes through strong asset management strategies and disciplined execution of maintenance activities.
The Role
Reporting to the
Team Leader
, the Mechanical Coordinator is responsible for supervising the day‑to‑day delivery of corrective and preventative maintenance activities within the BOS area. This role provides hands‑on leadership to an integrated maintenance team and plays a key part in ensuring safety, equipment reliability, and operational performance—particularly during shutdown and critical maintenance events.
Key Accountabilities
* Lead and take accountability for health, safety and environmental performance, ensuring a zero‑harm workplace
* Drive the consistent application of BlueScope maintenance processes, systems, and standards, with a focus on eliminating inefficiencies and rework
* Contribute to the development and execution of asset strategies and maintenance plans within your area of responsibility
* Prepare detailed task and job documentation to enable safe execution, efficient use of downtime, and cost‑effective maintenance delivery
* Coordinate maintenance teams and service providers to ensure work is completed safely, to specification, on time, and within budget
* Continuously improve tool‑time, quality, and cost outcomes through strong planning and supervision
About You
You may be an experienced Mechanical Coordinator or Supervisor, or a skilled tradesperson ready to step into a leadership role. You bring solid heavy‑industry maintenance experience, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to lead teams during both BAU and shutdown environments.
Key Requirements
* Demonstrated commitment to health, safety and environmental standards
* Minimum 5 years' experience in heavy industry, with a sound understanding of asset management principles
* Relevant Mechanical Trade and/or Engineering qualification
* NSW Driver Licence
* White Card (General Construction Induction)
