Primary objective
Under the direction of Specialist Keepers undertake zoo keeping duties as part of the daily care, management, training and
display of the living animal collection and the maintenance of their enclosures.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist with the daily husbandry and/or conditioning of animals in a section of the animal collection and the maintenance
of their displays and enclosures.
2. Operate within a strong safety culture and implement defined Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) policies and
procedures while delivering Commission services.
3. Conduct public presentations and tours providing a visitor experience.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Understanding of basic captive husbandry and ability to provide care for captive wildlife.
2. Self-motivated with ability to effectively work with limited direct supervision.
1. Good observation skills and the ability to recognize animal behavioural and management problems.
2. Ability to engage with visitors and carry out presentations and tours.
3. Good communication skills and ability to liaise effectively with other staff in a multi-disciplinary workplace and work in a
small team.
1. Ability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays on a roster system.
2. Current "C" class NT drivers licence and First Aid Certificate, or ability to obtain.
Desirable
1. Technical skills or formal training relevant to the positon.
1. Understanding of and strong commitment to the roles, values and functions of the Alice Springs Desert Park.

1. This position involves irregular rostered shifts, with no guaranteed weekly hours.
