Position Overview
Part‐time (0.6 FTE) 9‐month fixed‐term Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) commencing Term 2, 2026, subject to possible extension or permanency.
Responsibilities
The AIEO is a liaison between the school and community, working closely with teachers, students and families to develop culturally relevant programs that empower Indigenous students to achieve their potential, foster a supportive learning environment and deliver culturally responsive education programs.
Eligibility
Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 50d of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA); only Aboriginal applicants will be considered.
* Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or holder of a valid visa that permits work for the term of appointment.
* Valid Working With Children Check prior to appointment.
* Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number from the Department of Education's Screening Unit before appointment.
Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the histories, languages, social and cultural protocols of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of culturally responsive strategies that support the wellbeing, engagement and learning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
* Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, liaise with parents/caregivers, families, teachers and community members, and assist teachers to understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students' needs.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of building culturally safe environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Demonstrated effective organisational skills to assist in the delivery of culturally responsive education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or allied health professionals.
