AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on.
In this role you will influence all aspects of fire protection design, construction, operations, and maintenance for our global fleet of data centres. This includes fire suppression, fire detection, fire alarm, and mass notification systems, as well as fire‐resistant construction and life safety. You will work with internal and external teams to define, design, detail, and document the various fire protection features that our facilities require, using both prescriptive and performance‐based design approaches.
Key job responsibilities
* Drive improvement of design standards and project approaches across the organization
* Work with third‐party design vendors to review concept designs and designs in progress to ensure they meet established design standards, local code requirements, and any other requirements of the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
* Provide high‐quality fire protection engineering advice on a wide variety of projects globally whilst working with global fire protection engineering teams to achieve alignment of designs and design objectives
* Coordinate with construction and commissioning teams to answer requests for information and value engineering queries
* Be responsible for construction documents, code compliance, design and installation standards, water supply evaluation and assessment, testing, inspections, and submittal review
* This position will involve 20% travel within the APAC region and occasionally globally
Basic Qualifications
* 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission‐critical facilities including data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
* Experience in data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance
* Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods of data center equipment and facilities
Preferred Qualifications
* Professional Engineering or Architectural License
* Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
* Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
* Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
* Strong knowledge of NFPA standards and FM global requirements
