Primary objective
Provide high-level financial management, reporting and accounting services, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, debt
management, financial analysis, and advice, to support effective financial management across the agency in line with the Financial
Management Act, Australian Accounting Standards and NT Government policies
Context statement
Finance and Business Services is based in Corporate office in Darwin and provides finance and accounting services and support to
the agency's divisions, across the Territory. The unit handles high workloads subject to change and tight deadlines, requiring
emphasis on professional client service, thorough and accurate work, reliability, and well-developed communication and
interpersonal skills.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist the Accounting Manager to assign and manage team workloads and ensure service standards are delivered.
2. Deliver finance and accounting services to department stakeholders, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, debt
management, travel services and corporate credit card.
3. Provide training, assistance and advice to managers and staff regarding accounting systems, procedures and reporting, and work
with internal customers to ensure financial practices meet agency and NTG financial management requirements.
4. Provide assistance as required to the Budgets and Financial Accounting teams.
5. Draft correspondence on finance and related matters and assist as required with the development and review of procedures,
processes, forms and related materials.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Experience in a finance and accounting or budget role with a clear understanding of public sector financial management
frameworks.
1. Demonstrated ability in the interpretation and application of key financial management legislation, policies and procedures
2. Ability to effectively convey complex information in formats to suit the needs of a variety of stakeholders.
3. People management, interpersonal, organisation, and collaboration skills focussed on building, maintaining and developing
strong and effective teams, business relationships and delivering outcomes.
5. Experience in preparing and delivering training or information sessions to staff at various levels.
6. High levels of accountability, integrity, flexibility, initiative and self-motivation.
7. Experience in data manipulation and analysis techniques
8. Strong technicals excel skills in common IT packages with proven accuracy and attention to detail
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications or study towards these in a finance / accounting / business or related discipline.
