Department for Health and Wellbeing – Corporate and Infrastructure – Workforce Services Salary: $98,478 to $104,165 – ASO6 – Full Time / Ongoing appointment We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Work Health and Safety (WHS) Consultant to lead and deliver high-quality WHS services across the Department for Health and Wellbeing (DHW). This is a pivotal role that supports the strategic direction of DHW by fostering a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and compliance with WHS legislation. Overview Reporting to the Lead WHS Programs, and accountable to the Manager Work Health Safety and Injury Management, you will play a pivotal role in delivering expert consultancy, advisory and operational WHS services across the Department for Health and Wellbeing (DHW). The role facilitates continuous improvement and ensures compliance with WHS legislation. Working in close partnership with senior leadership, managers, employees, and their representatives, the Senior WHS Consultant facilitates the implementation of the SA Health WHSIM system within DHW. This includes contributing to the identification, assessment, and control of WHS risks, and developing DHW-specific WHS plans and priorities. The role actively promotes and implements new WHS initiatives to raise awareness and improve safety outcomes, supporting a proactive and engaged safety culture across the department. Key responsibilities: Provide expert WHS advice and support across DHW. Lead and support incident investigations, risk assessments, and development of safe work procedures. Develop and review accident / injury prevention strategies and corrective action plans. Maintain records of safety audits, inspections, risk registers, and incident reporting. Prepare reports for senior management and regulatory bodies. Oversee staff compliance with mandatory training, manual handling, and ergonomic assessments. Facilitate hazard management, hazardous substances reviews, and database/system monitoring. Support Health and Safety Representatives, including election processes and register maintenance. Participate in WHS committees and working groups, promoting safe practices and a zero harm culture. Contribute to the development and review of DHW-specific WHS procedure and plans. Lead gap analysis and continuous improvement activities aligned with Cabinet and program targets.
