3rd Space is a community organisation supporting people who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness. From our drop‑in centre in Fortitude Valley, we offer practical support, case management, medical and allied health services, and pathways to safe, sustainable housing.

About the role
Reporting to the Practice Lead, the Connection & Development Coach works directly with people and families experiencing homelessness to support their transition toward safe and sustainable housing. Using contemporary, person‑centred approaches, you will help individuals and families identify goals, build skills, strengthen social connections, and navigate pathways out of homelessness.
This role is hands‑on, relational, and deeply meaningful, perfect for someone who thrives on coaching, connecting, advocating, and empowering others.
Key responsibilities
Engagement & Assessment
* Conduct comprehensive assessments to understand individual and family needs, aspirations, and challenges.
* Develop tailored, goal‑oriented plans focusing on housing, health, employment, and social connection.
* Review plans regularly to ensure progress and sustainable outcomes.
Coaching & Skill Building
* Provide face‑to‑face, strengths‑based coaching using motivational interviewing and solution‑focused approaches.
* Support increased independence by building life skills, capability and confidence.
* Provide outreach engagement and utilise assertive engagement practices.
* Link individuals with specialist services and long‑term supports.
Networks, Resources & Advocacy
* Facilitate connections to community networks, services, and social supports.
* Advocate for participants and families navigating housing and support systems.
* Maintain strong relationships with external partners and collaborate across the 3rd Space team.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
* Maintain accurate, confidential records and reporting (DEX, SHIP, AIHW, QHIP).
* Ensure a safe and child‑safe environment aligned with organisational policies and legislation.
* Participate in team meetings, supervision, training, and reflective practice.
About you
You are compassionate, resilient, collaborative, and driven to make a difference. You bring professionalism and empathy to every interaction and can support people experiencing complex challenges with dignity and respect.
Qualifications
* Tertiary qualification in human services, behavioural science, social work, or related field - or relevant experience.
Skills & Experience
* Experience supporting individuals and/or families experiencing homelessness, disadvantage, or complex needs.
* Strong knowledge of community services, housing pathways, and support systems in Queensland.
* Understanding of evidence‑based, trauma‑informed and person‑centred practice.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
* Cultural awareness, including understanding of intergenerational trauma experienced by First Nations peoples.
Mandatory requirements
* QLD C‑Class Driver Licence
* Working with Children Check (Blue Card)
* National Police Check or willingness to obtain one
