Student Support Officer (January 2026)
Student Support Officer | Full time | Ascot, WA | Supportive Team | Animal-friendly Campus
We're seeking a friendly, approachable, organised and proactive Student Support Officer to join our team.
Applied Vocational Training (AVT) is a highly respected, WA-based Registered Training Organisation (RTO) specialising in animal care, veterinary nursing and animal behaviour and training qualifications. With over 25 years of experience, we are passionate about shaping the next generation of animal care professionals and providing an outstanding student experience.
About the role
In this role, you will provide front-line support to current and prospective students, assisting with enquiries, enrolment processes, student progress monitoring, and general administration. You'll be part of a cross-trained Student Support team, meaning you'll learn a range of key tasks and step in to support different areas during peak periods or course intakes.
This position is ideal for someone who communicates with empathy and clarity, has strong attention to detail, and enjoys working in a collaborative, service-oriented environment. If you can confidently handle a busy inbox, pick up new systems quickly, and aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves and help wherever needed, we'd love to meet you.
Key responsibilities
* Respond to student enquiries via email, phone and in person in a friendly and timely manner.
* Manage student enrolments, including application review, LLND requirements, assess course suitability and conduct student interviews where required.
* Maintain accurate student records, documentation and checklists in accordance with AVT procedures and compliance requirements.
* Provide clear guidance and support to students throughout their course, both on campus and online.
* Monitor student progress and follow up where support or encouragement may be needed.
* Support shared team functions such as reception coverage, inbox monitoring and resource preparation.
* Contribute to a positive and collaborative team culture.
* May assist with student work placement coordination.
About you
You'll be successful in this role if you are:
* Warm, approachable and student-focused in your communication.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strongly focused on customer service and student experience.
* Highly organised with great attention to detail.
* Confident using digital systems and learning new processes.
* Calm and practical when supporting students through challenges.
* Happy to pitch in across different tasks and work as part of a supportive team.
* Someone who brings strong common sense and enjoys helping things run smoothly.
* Completely comfortable when your "colleagues" sometimes have paws, tails or even feathers – and may need to share your workspace occasionally.
Qualifications & experience
Essential
* 2–3 years' experience in student support, administration or customer service.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Solid digital literacy skills.
* Working With Children Check (WCC).
Highly desirable
* Experience in a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
* Experience in the animal care or veterinary industry.
* First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain).
