The Opportunity
The Integrated Domestic and Family Violence Services (IDFV) Program is a key NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) initiative designed to improve the safety and well-being of women and children experiencing domestic and family violence (DFV).
The program delivers trauma-informed, client-centred, and culturally responsive case coordination and case management, placing victim-survivors at the centre of service delivery. Caseworkers provide support to all family members, including the person using violence, through risk assessment, safety planning, advocacy, and coordination of services, ensuring that women and children are secure, empowered, and connected to the supports they need.
The Program operates through a multi-agency model, requiring caseworkers to work in partnership with Police, Health, DCJ, housing providers, courts, legal services, and specialist DFV organisations as well as other relevant community support services. A core feature of the program is participation in Safety Action Meetings (SAMs), which bring agencies together to share information and develop coordinated responses to high-risk cases.
The program prioritises access for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people with disabilities, and other priority populations, ensuring that services are culturally safe, inclusive, and accessible. Brokerage funds are available to provide practical support in urgent or crisis situations, such as emergency accommodation, transport, or safety equipment. Through integrated practice, the IDFV Program seeks to:
- Enhance safety for women and children at risk of DFV
- Improve well-being and recovery through tailored case management
- Ensure that the people using violence are held accountable by contributing to coordinated justice and safety responses
- Promote cultural safety and inclusion, strengthening family and community connections
- Drive service system collaboration to ensure consistent, efficient, and effective responses to DFV across NSW.
