About This role:

The Registered Nurse - Transition to Practice is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of safe, clinically appropriate nursing care in collaboration with patients/clients, their families and the multidisciplinary health care team to achieve goals and health outcomes.

* Works within the Nursing and Midwifery Board Australia (NMBA) standards for practice and a Transition to Practice framework to embed clinical and professional competencies, in a supported and development-focussed context of clinical practice.
* Is individually accountable for clinical knowledge, further education and working within the scope of practice determined by their experience and skills.
* Delivers quality and compassionate person-centred care that ensures the wellbeing, safety, values and clinical care needs of the patient/client are met.

Positions are available in a wide range of practice settings, including metropolitan, district hospitals, communities and Rural Health Services. Please note, we try our best to match applicants with their preferences however this is not guaranteed.

Details of Appointment:

Permanent, full time and part time shift work and day work roles available working minimum of 48* and up to 76 hours per fortnight commencing in February 2026.

*48 hour per fortnight positions are offered based on visa restrictions. Once you have obtained full working rights your hours will increase up to full time and no less than 64

* Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Your Transition to Practice placement is for 12 months and you are not guaranteed ongoing employment within that department. As a permanent employee, you are appointed to a classification and assigned duties at that classification level. Your duties and assigned business unit, such as hospital ward, may be varied as required for service delivery. Any variation to your duties would take into consideration your qualifications and skills. You will be consulted regarding this change.

Location:

Positions are available in the South, North, North West and inclusive of District hospitals.

Salary:

$78,179 - $105,995 pro rata per annum + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging

* Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2023

In addition to those listed in the above link, from 16 July 2024, there is an opportunity for participants commencing in the 2025 and 2026 Transition to Practice program to receive scholarship funding.

The scholarship is aligned to the Expanded Support Program and will be available in two instalments of $5,000 per annum in years two and three of employment, where an employee can evidence undertaking additional study to progress their career in alignment with the intentions of the Expanded Support Program.

Graduate Entry Points

If you are new graduate, and have not been previously registered with Aphra your entry point will be:

Registered Nurse Grade 3 Year 1: $78,179 pro rata per annum

If you are currently working as an Enrolled Nurse, as a graduate Registered Nurse your entry point will be:

Registered Nurse Grade 3 Year 3: $84,189 pro rata per annum

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

1. Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
2. Current Driver’s Licence (Community Nurse positions only)
3. Current Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)
4. Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements)

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

In line with the requirements of the Transition to Practice Program:

• Less than six months experience (since date of initial registration) as a registered nurse

• Due to complete or less than two years since completion of Registered Nurse qualifications for registration

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
1. Crimes of violence
2. sex related offences
3. serious drug offences
4. crimes involving dishonesty
1. serious traffic offences (Community Nurse positions only)
1. Identification check
2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
