Kinship Support Specialist

The Opportunity

">

Providing Kinship Care services to children and their families in the Hume region.

">

Kinship Care is the care provided to a child/young person or sibling group by their extended family or network when they are unable to be cared for by their biological parents.

">

This position has an outreach focus in the community with service delivery across various regions.

">


Key Responsibilities

">
">
* Provide case management services to statutory kinship care arrangements to ensure long-term stability, security, safety and development needs are addressed.
">
* Enhance and build on available formal and informal family and community supports for children and young people living in kinship placements.
">
* Assist families to provide the best possible care arrangement for children/young people who are unable to safely live with their birth parents.
">
* Work in accordance with case management requirements in partnership with child protection.
">

Required Skills and Qualifications

">

Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with children, young people and their kinship families.

">

Understanding of inter-generational factors and complex relationships between extended family members impacting kinship placements.

">

Experience working with children, young people and families through an attachment and trauma-based lens.

">

Minimum qualification: Diploma in Psychology, Social Work, Youth Work or relevant field with intermediate experience in the sector.

">

Bachelor qualification is highly desirable.
