Your New Role And Responsibilities
As a GIS Production Engineer, you will be part of a high‐performing geospatial delivery team, contributing to the production, maintenance, and enhancement of enterprise GIS data and products supporting mission‐critical outcomes. You will operate under general direction and be responsible for the reliable execution of assigned GIS production tasks within established engineering, quality, and service management frameworks. Working within a secure and complex environment, you will apply strong geospatial engineering, data management and automation skills to deliver high‐quality spatial products at scale, collaborating closely with engineers, analysts, and operational stakeholders to ensure production workflows are efficient, repeatable, and aligned to customer requirements. This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to nationally significant geospatial capability while helping uplift production maturity through continuous improvement and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce, maintain, update, and validate geospatial datasets in line with defined standards, schemas, and production schedules.
* Support end‐to‐end GIS production workflows, including data ingestion, processing, quality assurance, and release.
* Apply spatial analysis and geoprocessing techniques to generate accurate, fit‐for‐purpose GIS products.
* Develop and maintain automated or semi‐automated geospatial production processes using scripting and GIS tools.
* Perform quality assurance and resolve routine data or production issues, escalating complex problems as needed.
* Collaborate with stakeholders and contribute to documentation, continuous improvement, and informal mentoring of junior team members.
What You'll Bring To Make An Impact
* Demonstrated experience in GIS production or geospatial data engineering roles.
* Strong knowledge of GIS platforms and tools (e.g., Esri ArcGIS suite or equivalent).
* Experience working with spatial data formats, coordinate systems, geodatabases, and metadata standards.
* Understanding of geospatial data quality, validation, and production workflows.
* Ability to follow structured production processes while identifying opportunities for improvement.
* Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in team‐based, deadline‐driven environments, with exposure to scripting/automation and enterprise or regulated geospatial settings.
Don't worry if you don't tick all the boxes – if you meet most of them, we encourage you to submit your application. We're most interested in your strengths, what you want to learn and how far you want to go.
