This Australian Government organisation plays a key role in supporting Australia’s primary industries and supply chains. Based in Canberra, the department works collaboratively with stakeholders across government, industry and the community to deliver high-quality policy, program and operational outcomes.Due to an increase in workload, they are seeking an experienced APS5 Executive Assistant to join a fast‑paced policy and stakeholder-focused branch.
Your new role
As an APS5 Executive Assistant, you will provide high-level executive and administrative support to the First Assistant Secretary within a dynamic work area. This is a labour hire contract for 6 months, with a 6‑month extension option.
Key responsibilities include:
* Providing proactive executive support to one or more senior executives
* Managing calendars, meeting coordination, inboxes and workflows
* Preparing correspondence, briefing material, agendas and meeting packs
* Coordinating travel arrangements and associated acquittals
* Liaising professionally with internal and external stakeholders
* Maintaining records, tracking actions, and supporting branch operations
* Supporting the team with ad hoc administrative and coordination tasks as required
This role would suit someone who enjoys working in a fast‑paced APS environment and thrives on organisation, discretion and stakeholder engagement.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
* Experience providing executive support at APS level (APS5 or equivalent)
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* High attention to detail and sound judgement when handling confidential information
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams)
* The ability to work autonomously while also supporting a broader team
A current Baseline clearance or the ability to obtain one
