A highly experienced team leader and researcher with the ability to provide apolitical strategic advice in a parliamentary environment?
We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills and sound professional judgment to join us in supporting the Legislative Assembly's Committees.
As a Principal Research Officer, you will see Western Australia's Parliament up close. You will engage apolitically with elected members with a diverse range of political opinions and objectives to act as the committee's primary adviser, organiser and administrator, analyst and writer. You will lead the Committee's operations, oversee a small team, and help ensure the efficient conduct of inquiries, hearings and reporting. Some work outside of normal hours may be required, as will travel with the Committee from time to time.
Our ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong leadership and organisational ability, and the capacity to analyse complex issues, manage competing priorities and work confidently with a wide range of stakeholders.

Supporting members from all sides of politics, our staff give advice on practical administrative matters, as well as assisting the Committees to examine and develop policy. We help Committees to hear from stakeholders including experts, professional organisations, interest groups and members of the public. We prepare a wide range of documents to support the Committees' work, including correspondence, meeting papers and inquiry reports.
Working in a parliamentary environment can be challenging, and successful applicants should expect major peaks and troughs in workload based in part on the Parliamentary sitting calendar. In return, you will be offered daily exposure to the Parliament and given a degree of autonomy and independence unique in the public sector.

The current opportunity is for a full-time permanent role. Suitable applicants may be considered for other similar vacancies within the next 12 months.
