Research Technician Role
Job Description:
As a Research Technician in Vertebrate Pest Management, you will play a key role in tackling Australia's most damaging mammalian pests. You will contribute to innovative research projects, working across field sites and biosecure facilities to develop smarter pest control strategies for rodents and rabbits.
Responsibilities:
Perform routine care and husbandry of animals in strict accordance with The Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes.
Work as part of a team to undertake field work and captive animal studies to collect data on rodents and rabbits.
Design and maintain data recording systems and research datasets.
Conduct literature reviews, investigations, and inspections in the field or laboratory, including associated analysis possibly involving statistical or graphics software.
Maintain laboratory or fieldwork consumables and coordinate shared lab resources and training.
Requirements:
Hold an Honours degree in Animal Science and have at least 6 months of relevant work experience from the date of degree conferral.
Have previous experience with handling and humane killing of vertebrate research animals.
Be able to accurately collect and record data from field and laboratory studies with minimal supervision.
Have a valid driver's licence.
Not own or frequently handle pet or wild rabbits due to biosecurity requirements.
Working Conditions:
The role requires domestic travel for field work, often to remote regions, for up to two weeks at a time, with occasional weekend or holiday work.
