About Us
Harding Miller Education Foundation (HMEF), an Australian charity dedicated to supporting girls attending Australian Public Schools who demonstrate academic excellence, face financial barriers, and are highly motivated to succeed at school and pursue tertiary education across the country.
Since 2016, HMEF has awarded scholarships to over 1,480 girls from more than 400 public schools across every state and territory in Australia. Each scholarship is valued at $20,000 and provides recipients with the tools and support they need to reach their academic potential and build meaningful pathways to tertiary education and fulfilling careers.
Role Overview
As a Volunteer Coach, you’ll provide vital coaching and mentoring to scholarship recipients - communicating with them monthly to offer encouragement, be a ‘sounding board’ to help them make sound decisions and support them in planning their future through high school. You’ll help them navigate their scholarship tools, set goals, and act as a positive adult role model.
Responsibilities Available for min 2-3 hours per month to:
- Connect with scholars at least once a month via emails, texts, virtual meetings, or phone calls
- Use our Coach Hub to access all tools and resources for coaches
- Record interactions and progress using Dynamics database
- Use Outlook when sending emails
- Regularly check emails to stay engaged with HMEF Coach training and Foundation communications
- Help your scholars access and optimise their scholarship resources
- Encourage goal setting around academics, subject selection, and future aspirations
- Offer general advocacy and support
What We’re Looking For
- A current Working with Children Check (or Blue Card, or equivalent) from your state or current application
- Degree qualified, (or HMEF Alumnae currently studying at university) and/or parent of a child who has commenced university
- Willingness to complete 1.5hours of initial online coach training and engage in follow up check ins after 7, 30, 60 and 90 days
- Ability to commit to a minimum one-year role supporting at least 4-5 scholars
- Competence with email, phone, and basic skills with Microsoft software, including a basic CRM system, like Dynamics 365 OR a willingness to be trained
- Excellent communication, reliability, empathy, and interest in supporting young women in education
- A robust believer in the value of education in changing lives
