We’re seeking technically capable engineers ranging in experience from Student to Senior Civil Engineer, to join our Civil Engineering Assessment team. In this role, you’ll lead assessments of development applicants ranging in complexity, to provide expert technical advice, and contribute to shaping high-quality civil infrastructure outcomes across the City. You’ll work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, applying a practical and solutions-focused approach to ensure infrastructure aligns with City Plan and relevant engineering standards. About The Team

City Development is responsible for the management and assessment of development applications, developer contributions, planning appeals, and providing expert planning, building, and technical advice. The branch plays a critical role in supporting sustainable and well-designed growth across the City. Within City Development, the Engineering and Landscape Assessment (ELA) Business Unit provides technical advice and assessment of civil and landscape-related aspects of development applications, including operational works (detailed design). ELA works closely with planning, infrastructure, and asset management teams to ensure integrated and informed decision-making. The team offers opportunities to work on diverse and significant development projects, collaborate with industry professionals, and contribute to shaping the future of the City through high-quality, solutions-oriented engineering assessments.


About Your New Role

As a Civil Engineer, you’ll lead the assessment of development applications and contribute to shaping infrastructure outcomes across the City. Working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment, you’ll apply your technical expertise to deliver practical, solutions-focused advice that aligns with City objectives and engineering standards. This role offers opportunities to engage with internal teams and industry partners, influence policy improvements, and support the capability of your team through mentorship and knowledge sharing. A proactive and innovative approach will be key to delivering high-quality, consistent outcomes in a fast-paced environment.


In This Role You Will

* Deliver timely, high-quality engineering assessments of development applications, with a focus on infrastructure planning, civil design, stormwater management, and other relevant disciplines.
* Review engineering documentation, technical reports, and development proposals to ensure solution-focused outcomes aligned with legislative frameworks, planning schemes, and organisational and engineering standards.
* Provide expert engineering advice and solutions to internal stakeholders, applicants, and external consultants, including participation in prelodgement and technical discussions.
* Contribute to the consistency and quality of engineering advice across the branch by applying sound judgment and working collaboratively with colleagues and team leaders.
* Seniors will support the Team Leader by providing informal mentorship and guidance to engineers within the team, helping to develop capability and ensure technical alignment.
* Actively contribute to continuous improvement by identifying process efficiencies, reviewing internal practices, and helping refine City engineering guidelines and policies.
* Maintain strong working relationships with internal planning teams, infrastructure providers, and industry professionals to support integrated and informed decision-making.


We're Looking For People Who Have

* Experience levels ranging from student to senior in development engineering, with a strong track record of leading complex assessments.
* A commensurate level of knowledge of relevant engineering standards, planning frameworks, and development legislation, depending on experience.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and professionally.
* Proactive problem solving skills, able to navigate complexity, apply sound judgment, and offer practical, outcome-focused solutions.
* Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively with planners, engineers, consultants, and stakeholders to drive collaborative outcomes.
* Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple priorities efficiently and professionally.
* A positive and adaptable mindset, contributing to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
* Holding a Bachelor Degree in Engineering.
