Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Physiotherapist to join the Care of Older People in Surgery (COPS) service. The successful candidate will work with geriatrics and surgical teams to deliver holistic, timely care to patients aged 75 and over with a frailty score of 3 or higher. Goals include reducing post-operative complications, facilitating early discharge, and improving overall outcomes. A strong background in supervising and educating junior staff and students is essential, with a commitment to service planning, implementation, and evaluation.
This role involves management of complex respiratory cases in geriatric and post-surgical patients and contributes to a transformative model of care emphasizing compassion, collaboration, and innovation.
Responsibilities
Provide specialist physiotherapy assessment, treatment and discharge planning for older patients in the surgical pathway, with an emphasis on geriatric and frailty considerations.
Collaborate with geriatricians and surgical teams to deliver holistic patient care and improve postoperative outcomes.
Supervise and educate junior staff and students; contribute to clinical teaching and supervision across teams.
Contribute to service planning, implementation, and evaluation of physiotherapy services for older people in surgery.
Develop and implement clinical physiotherapy policies and procedures as required.
Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication, time management, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
Engage in Quality Improvement and Evidence Based Practice to advance service delivery.
Provide advice to service managers on clinical service development and design in response to demands and stakeholder needs.
Qualifications
Degree in Physiotherapy and current National Physiotherapy Registration with AHPRA.
Significant postgraduate experience in physiotherapy, with substantial experience in Surgical & Aged Care physiotherapy.
Demonstrated teaching and supervision experience with staff and students.
Experience in developing clinical physiotherapy policies and procedures.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, effective time management, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
Commitment to professional development and knowledge of Quality Improvement and Evidence Based Practice.
Ability to advise on clinical service development, practice and design for physiotherapy services in response to needs.

What You Will Bring To The Role
Degree in Physiotherapy and current National Physiotherapy Registration with AHPRA.
