Leonardo Australia's Electronics Division performs research, design, development, production, customer support and marketing of Leonardo's extensive range of Naval Communications in defence applications, predominately Naval.
The Australian subsidiary is a full-service operation undertaking business development, logistics management, assembly and maintenance and other related support functions. Leonardo Australia's activities are concerned with equipment and system upgrades, capability enhancements, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, modifications and deployed support to customer maintenance activities.
About the role
The Communications Technician is responsible for using their skills and experience, along with guidance and direction from their Leading Hand & Supervisor, to carry out all aspects involved in the successful delivery of the Project SEA1442 for all Royal Australian Navy Vessels and project support facilities.
The role includes but is not limited to a broad commitment to all phases of the full project life cycle, assisting with testing, integration and maintenance, while under the expectation that work and manner is consistently carried out to the quality, professionalism, timeliness and with high awareness of workplace safety, as stipulated in the Leonardo Australia Competency Expectations.
The Communications Technician will have the following responsibilities:
* Complete and maintain any required site inductions and/or security clearances.
* Undertake works in accordance with any work instructions, permits, test plans and risk assessments including (Take 5's), assisting development for and understanding JHA's.
* Read and interpret technical, test and operational instructions, drawings and plans to complete execute our work packs.
* Correctly and efficiently assemble and test new communications equipment, maintain cable management components and other ancillaries.
* Correctly and efficiently use the correct cable termination tools to manufacture, repair and, test communications cabling of various types.
* Monitor usage and storage of consumables and Leonardo property, always reporting when material is running low. Look after any resources, consumables or tools issued to you and report lost/damaged/missing items immediately.
* Read and interpret termination and wiring instructions, completing various types of terminations to a high quality and precise manner, i.e. (Hardwired, MILSPEC/Coaxial/DATA/Fibre – when trained)
* Assist within a team and solo, undertake all works to the required standards for quality and on time.
* Assist in works across several facilities in Rockingham and Henderson WA. Occasional works nationally and internationally may be offered
Education and Certification Requirements:
* White/Blue Card in Construction.
* Clear National Police History Check, or ability to obtain.
* Eligibility to obtain a defence baseline clearance as a minimum.
* Eligibility to obtain a defence clearance to the level of NV1 upon commencement.
* Tertiary Qualification in Telecommunications/Engineering/Electrical or equivalent experience desirable.
* Electrician Trade with relevant industry experience desirable.
Professional and Technical Experience Requirements:
* Experienced Marine Technician desirable.
* Telecommunications and Network Cabling Endorsements desirable.
* Experience with MILSPEC terminating and/or ship fabrication desirable.
