Salary: $54,772 per annum

About the Role
The Dental Assistant Trainee supports the delivery of oral health services by assisting dentists and oral health practitioners in clinical and administrative duties while completing formal training in dental assisting.
This role provides an opportunity to gain hands‐on experience in a culturally safe healthcare environment while undertaking a Certificate III in Dental Assisting (or equivalent qualification).
Responsibilities
Clinical Support
- Prepare dental treatment rooms and instruments for patient care.
- Assist dentists and oral health practitioners during procedures.
- Sterilise and maintain dental instruments and equipment in accordance with infection control standards.
- Prepare and process dental materials as directed.
- Maintain stock and supplies within the clinic.
Patient Care
- Greet and support patients in a respectful and culturally safe manner.
- Assist patients to feel comfortable before, during, and after treatment.
- Provide oral health education and promote preventative dental care.
Administration
- Schedule appointments and manage patient records.
- Complete paperwork and data entry accurately.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
Training and Development
- Participate in all required traineeship studies and assessments.
- Attend workplace training sessions and supervision meetings.
- Demonstrate willingness to learn and develop dental assisting skills.
Community Engagement
- Promote the values and mission of the ACCHO.
- Support outreach and community oral health promotion activities where required.

Essential Skills And Experience
- Willingness to undertake and complete a Certificate III in Dental Assisting.
- Interest in oral health and community healthcare.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
- Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn.
- Basic computer skills.
- Current Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain).
- National Police Check (or ability to obtain).
Desirable Criteria
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Previous experience in healthcare, administration, or customer service.
- Current Driver's Licence.
