Consultant Geriatrician (Horsham/Stawell Campus)

An exciting opportunity exists for a dynamic Consultant Geriatrician to join our Horsham and Stawell campuses to provide specialist geriatric services to our emergency department, together with our acute and subacute wards. This role includes working Monday to Friday and participating in on call and weekend roster for General Medicine at the Horsham Campus. The role will be crucial to improving geriatric healthcare across the region and support the development of the Acute Care of the Elderly program, and includes support and supervision of junior doctors including registrars and interns in our in- and outpatient settings.

Key Responsibilities
Will include:
1. Clinical management of geriatric patients within the emergency department, acute and subacute sites as required.
2. Provide support and advice to the Geriatric and General Medicine teams and broader health service to support the development of the ACE program on acute and Geriatrics in ED
3. Opportunities may exist within a range of community programs such as CDAMS, gait and balance and continence service.
4. Supervision and education of junior medical staff
5. Providing clinical leadership of a multidisciplinary team to achieve clearly documented patient and team goals of therapy within a reasonable and transparent timeframe.
Skills and experience
6. MBBS or equivalent degree enabling registration with AHPRA/Medical Board of Australia.
7. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent where other qualifications are recognized by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians as equivalent or through College faculty membership.
8. For an overseas- trained appointee, postgraduate clinical training, qualifications and experience in Internal Medicine and Geriatric medicine which the College assesses as meeting its requirements for appointment to the position under Area of Need arrangements
9. Recognized qualifications in Geriatric Medicine by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
10. Demonstrated appropriate level experience and skills in the medical assessment and clinical management of patients
