**The Role**
The position is accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex procedural, operational and administrative work relating to WHS, within an integrated setting comprising of military, civilian and contractors.
This role requires an understanding of and compliance to relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making and Defence's mission and policy requirements. This role will work within a collaborative team to monitor work practices and develop and enhance local procedures within the OPV Capability.
**About our Team**
The Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) Group is responsible for the Capability Monitoring and Management of our OPV Group units with a primary focus on governance, capability management and audit of all units. The OPV Group consists of the Headquarters which is located in Perth and will eventually have ships based in Perth, Cairns and Darwin.
The OPV Group provides ongoing support to our units in Personnel, Operations, Logistics, Planning, Training and Safety to ensure platform availability and ensure OPVs can accomplish the full spectrum of Maritime Security Operations and meet Government directed operations as required.
- Be responsible for overall WHS compliance across the OPV Class and within the OPV Group, including drafting and reviewing WHS plans and procedures;
- Be responsible for ongoing monitoring, auditing and facilitating rectification of WHS issues;
- Be accountable for research and analysis activities to identify and address work health and safety risks to capability;
- Work with staff to address Corrective Action Recommendations across the OPV Enterprise in keeping with Commonwealth WHS policy and legislation;
- Work with stakeholders to develop sustainable Site Safety Management and Environmental arrangements;
- Promote a culture of safety and best practice in environmental standards and compliance;
- Be responsible for the compilation and analysis of various WHS reports;
- Provide WHS advice and assistance to OPV Group staff, OPV Crews and Enterprise partners;
- Oversee WHS and environment compliance ensuring that stakeholder entities are fulfilling their obligations under legislation; and
- Resolve problems using professional expertise, taking initiative to identify alternative courses of action and implications for work health and safety activities.
