North Academy is an independent, special assistance school established to support vulnerable young people who may have complex trauma, developmental and mental health needs. We specialise in trauma-sensitive education and offer small class sizes, shorter days, and a tailored approach for young people in stage 5 and 6.
Who are we looking for? We're looking for a passionate teacher to join our exceptional team. Primary or secondary trained. Special education highly considered, but not a deal breaker for us. NESA registration to teach in NSW. Conditional, provisional, and proficient accreditations welcomed. An individual who understands trauma, behaviour and mental health needs. Willingness to teach multiple subjects and outside of your Key Learning Area (KLA). A snapshot of the role expectations: Live and breathe the North Education Model elements and values every day. Teach and deliver lessons to students in a supportive, engaging, and inclusive environment. Prioritise, build, and maintain healthy connections and relationships with all young people. Design and develop engaging and innovative curriculum, programs, assessments, and resources for allocated KLAs. Use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS) strategies when required to manage behaviour. Collaborate with the Head Teacher, Wellbeing Coordinator and Student Support Workers to create a safe and supportive environment. Actively participate in weekly excursions, team meetings and school events. What is on offer? Full time employment. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in teaching (primary or secondary). Approval to teach in NSW by NESA. Current Working with Children Check (WWCC). National Police Check. Driver's License. Proven experience teaching and managing students with complex educational needs, including educational disadvantage, multiple diagnoses, mental health, and/or behavioural challenges. Ability to view challenging behaviours and crises as opportunities for student growth. Experience in programming and assessment development for Stage 5 and 6. Expertise in identifying, developing, and implementing student adjustments to support diverse learning needs. Excellent time management, organisational, and interpersonal skills. Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to effectively navigate and thrive in challenging environments. You live, breathe, and wholeheartedly believe in the North Education Model.
