Primary objective
To support the compliance and enforcement functions of the Development Coordination Branch relating to land clearing on
unzoned land under the Planning Act 1999 across the Northern Territory. The position will support a robust and credible
compliance program that contributes to the sustainable development and conservation of the Territory's natural resources.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake analysis of remotely sensed data to identify changes in land clearing and land cover change.
1. Support and assist in the development and implementation of environmental compliance programs including conducting
audits and investigations of non-compliance of the Planning Act 1999.
3. Support field-based UAV image capture programs for landscape assessment and natural resource monitoring.
4. Assist in the preparation of briefings, reports and other material on native vegetation management matters within
statutory timeframes to support effective decision making.
1. Assist with the maintenance of the land clearing detection code base and databases.
2. Exercise responsibilities of an Authorised Officer under the Planning Act 1999 regarding native vegetation management,
including the investigation and reporting of alleged breaches to statutory controls.
7. Support and assist in site inspections throughout the Territory to assess compliance with legislation and permits relating
to the clearing of native vegetation.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Degree in remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems, Environmental Science or related field.
2. Knowledge in applying remote sensing methodologies to detect vegetation change and/or land cover change.
3. Knowledge in the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) software for analysis of spatial data.
4. Ability to prepare and analyse quality technical reports, read plans and interpret land information, legislation and
regulations to enable accurate interpretation and provision of advice.
5. Project management skills including ability to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines.
1. Good interpersonal skills including oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively
with various authorities, local communities, and people of diverse cultures, industry professionals and the general public.
7. Northern Territory driver licence or equivalent.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of Northern Territory vegetation and land systems.
2. Postgraduate degree in remote sensing.
3. Knowledge or willingness to learn Python programming language
