Role Purpose:
As the Development Lead, you will be responsible for leading and guiding the technical direction of software development projects, ensuring high-quality design and implementation of scalable, efficient, and secure systems.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing technical expertise and data to inform decisions that align with business goals and requirements. Additionally, the role includes overseeing the integration of new technologies and tools, optimizing ways of working, build and version methodology, code quality, and ensuring the long-term maintainability and flexibility of the architecture.
Role Responsibilities:
* In this hands-on role, you'll lead, motivate, and mentor the Development team, driving technology improvement and innovation while fostering a purpose-driven culture.
* You'll act as a trusted advisor ensuring the team’s employee experience is valued.
* Provide technical direction, ensuring best practices in coding, design, and testing, and maintaining scalable, efficient systems.
* You'll work with stakeholders to prioritize and address challenges, propose new technologies to enhance performance, and maintain long-term system sustainability.
* You will promote innovation, balancing technical debt, and fostering an inclusive, growth-oriented environment. You will set KPIs aligned with the Technology Strategy, address BAU issues, and collaborate with the CEO to enhance the Quality Management System.
Required skills and qualifications:
* Minimum 10 years' experience in Development, and minimum 5 years as a Development Lead, with an analytical mindset and strong attention to detail.
* Demonstrated drive and vision to modernize a technical stack.
* Experience with building code pipelines managing regulated and unregulated deployment pipelines to multiple environments.
* Experience with automation tools like Jenkins, CodeDeploy, OctopusDeploy, or similar.
* Deep knowledge of security principles (e.g., OWASP, data encryption, authentication, and authorization) for secure software development and architecture.
* Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS), containerization (Docker, ECS), serverless architectures, and microservices.
* Successful leadership and management of small to medium, multidisciplinary teams, with strong talent judgment.
* Ability to manage team capacity and workflow to meet timelines.
* Experience working in regulated environments and with Accredited Testing Facilities.
* Familiarity with Node, React, Python, Cobol, and architectural patterns like the strangler pattern.
* Knowledge of continuous improvement practices and tools (e.g., Ansible, GitHub, Terraform, CDK/PDK) for CI/CD and infrastructure automation.
* Tertiary qualification in Information Technology or a related discipline.
