About the Role
Child Safety Officers are responsible for receiving, investigating, and assessing notifications of children at risk of harm from abuse or neglect. They work with families, community partners and other professionals to resolve problems and keep children safe, and in severe risk situations may be involved in legal interventions in the Magistrates Court. The role requires strong self‐management, emotional maturity, integrity, confidentiality and resilience.
Responsibilities
* Receive, investigate, and assess notifications of children at risk of harm.
* Collaborate with families and professionals to resolve problems and keep children safe.
* Engage in legal interventions in the Magistrates Court when necessary.
* Maintain accurate records and comply with the Child Protection Professional Practice Standards.
* Demonstrate self‐management, emotional maturity and resilience while managing personal impacts of child protection work.
Qualifications – Essential
* Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) with Employment status.
* Tertiary qualification approved by the relevant National Board (e.g., Bachelor of Social Work) or equivalent Level 7 qualification (e.g., Bachelor of Psychology).
* Associate Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma (AQF Level 5 or 6) in a relevant discipline.
* Valid driver's licence.
* Commitment to pre‐employment checks (conviction, identification, disciplinary).
Qualifications – Desirable
* Experience in case management or child safety, or broader human/family services sector (e.g., child/maternal health, mental health, community health).
