Job Overview

Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) is seeking Rural Generalists with advanced skills in Emergency Medicine to provide Emergency Department coverage across our rural and regional health sites, including Moree, Glen Innes, Inverell, Gunnedah and Narrabri.

Locations

Glen Innes District Hospital: 24-bed Level 3 rural hospital with a four-bed Emergency Department. Visiting Medical Officer available onsite on Fridays, supported by Armidale Rural Referral Hospital's Emergency Department. ED undergoing $50 million redevelopment.

Gunnedah District Hospital: 45 minutes from Tamworth Airport, primary referral to Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital.

Narrabri District Hospital: 28–30 beds, 24‐hour emergency care, supportive of Visiting Medical Officers, referral to Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital.

Inverell District Hospital: Busy ED, strong demand, encouraging Rural Generalists and GPs with interest in emergency medicine.

Responsibilities

• Provide Emergency Department coverage and support on rural sites.

• Combine General Practice with Emergency care, supervise trainees, influence models of care, and engage in teaching through UNE.

• Deliver comprehensive primary care, inpatient and emergency care to communities.

Essential Criteria – Qualifications

  • A primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA.
  • Fellowship of the RACGP or ACRRM.
  • Recognition as a Rural Generalist and/or via overseas‐trained specialist pathways.
  • Demonstrated capability as a medical expert with recent and comprehensive experience in General Practice (Emergency Medicine).
