The Bureau's Data and Digital group (DDG) is responsible for the ICT systems the Bureau relies on to provide trusted, reliable and responsive weather, water, climate, ocean and space weather services for Australia - all day, every day. The Infrastructure Services Section within the SIM Program seeks a Database Systems Manager to lead a team and take accountability for the Bureau's enterprise database platforms, including Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL systems.
The team is well established with long-standing responsibilities for the build and operation of mission critical database systems. This includes ongoing patching and capacity management, fulfilling moves/adds/changes and related service requests, and consultation with designers, architects and project teams.
To be successful in the role you will:
- Bring with you and contribute relevant hands-on experience and expertise in enterprise grade mission critical database systems on a large scale (multi-TB) - including highly available and disaster recovery replicas, high transaction rates and low query latencies;
- Have extensive knowledge of the Oracle, PostgreSQL and MySQL relational database management systems and technology;
- Recognise the potential for skill and talent in staff, and have the ability to recruit, coach and enable staff and manage underperformance;
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
