We are looking to fill this senior role in our National Communications Team, supporting AMWU members to build power in their workplaces, campaign for the things that matter to them at work, and deliver positive change in their industries and communities.

The role will involve specialist work in media engagement and work on the broader range of operational tasks and functions associated with internal and external communication in the Union.

About the Role
Working in a small team, you must be prepared to deliver and assist with all the operational tasks and functions associated with internal and external communication in the Union whilst juggling multiple projects and work with a range of stakeholders.
You will have a particular role in developing high-quality and engaging content across print and digital channels.
We are looking for a great collaborator who can juggle multiple projects and work with a range of stakeholders.
This role requires interstate travel from time to time.
Key responsibilities
* Develop content and strategies to support the social, industrial and political campaigns of AMWU members
* Develop, design and deliver on larger print publications, including the AMWU Journal, National Conference publications and resources such as handbooks and manuals.
* Develop and lead communications strategies for campaigns and community engagement, ensuring consistent messaging across channels.
* Write and distribute op-eds, media releases and maintain strong media relationships to support communication objectives. Ensure key union issues and messaging are communicated to the public and the media.
* Execute impactful campaign communications to assist in social, industrial and political union campaigns, using data-driven approaches. Provide advisory support to campaigns.
* Work closely and collaboratively with other team members and support the broader communications objectives of the AMWU. Mentor and coach other members of the team in a range of communications skills.
* Work effectively under the supervision of the National Communications Coordinator to further build skills and support overall communications efforts.

Selection Criteria
Essential
* A commitment to the values of the Australian trade union movement
* Formal qualification in communications, with at least 2 years of experience in the AMWU or 5 years within the union movement or other setting.
* Strong media engagement experience, including crafting key messages and press releases for targeted communication efforts.
* Outstanding ability to write clear, succinct, structured, engaging and accurate content that translates complex information into accessible language for various audiences and platforms.
* Outstanding skills in proofing and attention to detail.
* Ability to recognise compelling stories, and generate engaging, fit-for-purpose content that resonates with audiences.
* Demonstrated experience in graphic design and content creation and/or a willingness to develop these skills quickly
* Strong organisational, project management and time management skills. Proven ability to autonomously prioritise and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to engage with workers, delegates and AMWU officials to develop updates and content to support union campaigns.
Desirable
* Experience working on a range of successful campaigns, utilising media and other communications tools, and playing a lead role in developing strategies to support and drive campaign success.
* Strong experience providing advice and developing materials within the context of Australia's federal political system and the broader industrial and political environment that shapes union actions and campaigns.
* Industry experience in filming on professional grade camera equipment and editing video content, particularly using Adobe Premiere Pro (or similar software) with strong and demonstrated post-production skills.
* Experience in using mass-mailing systems/integrated marketing systems
* Driver's licence
